In the wake of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and its less-than-stellar reception, a whole host of major changes hit the DCEU. Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns and Warner Bros. VP Jon Berg took the helm of the comic book film division, now entitled DC Films. The iconic company also unveiled an updated logo, which much like Batman V Superman, hasn’t exactly hit the ball out of the park.
However, things could change for the better once Warner Bros./DC’s next big comic romp, Suicide Squad, hits theaters in August.
As was the case with its predecessor, DC and Warner Bros. are keeping a tight leash on anyinformation around the film – beyond the trailers and TV spots, at least. Early reactions to Suicide Squad weren’t supposed to trickle onto the web until the film screened at this month’s MCM Comic Con in London. However, Comic Book is reporting that several test screenings took place at the Century 25 and XD in Union City California. At first glance overall reactions to David Ayer’s villain-opus are very encouraging.
A quick glance at the field shows a great deal of post-viewing excitement about the film. One pre-screener even felt the anti-hero romp should have kick-started the DCEU, in lieu of Batman V Superman. Others praised the film, saying “it met my expectations!” In general, early viewers seemed to enjoy the overall performances – especially Will Smith (Deadshot), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn) and Jared Leto (The Joker).
